No. 231: This bag and horn set is meant to evoke the early encounters between American sheep farmers and the coyote during the early days of western expansion in the first half of the 19th century.
It is constructed of bark-tanned sheep hide and coyote hide, with an antique brass buckle.
The engraved powder horn was made by Cory Joe Stewart. It has an image of a man shooting at a canine invader near his homestead, and bears the inscription: “I POWDER WITH BRUTHER SHOT WILL THE KYOTEE ON THE SPOT. HE CAN RUN WHICH HE WILL DO BUT OUR AIM WILL BE SWIFT AND TRUE.”
